When you read blogs online, you’ll come across different writing styles and types of blogs. From personal, and business, to niche blogs, every blog offers a different tone and content for their audiences.

When you decide to start your own blog, understanding each type of blog is essential for finding the one that fits your interests, goals, and audience.

Now let’s break down the most popular types of blogs in the blogosphere so you can decide which one is best for your blog.

Personal blog

Personal blogs were the first type of blogs that ever existed online, and their focus was on the blogger’s life. It works like a journal, where bloggers write and share their personal experiences, opinions, and interests with their audience.

Most bloggers with personal blogs don’t care much about monetizing it with Ads or incorporating it with a business. They focused more on keeping a record of themselves and reflecting on it for personal growth.

In fact, that’s how I got into blogging in the first place.

Me and my friends made a blog back in 2020, where we express our thoughts and share our experiences. And even though it’s a multi-author blog, it’s still a personal blog because we share whatever comes to our mind.

Personal brand / professional blog

Over time, blogs become more than just a personal blog. And because individuals and businesses saw huge potential in making money from blogging, different types of blogs were born.

This type of blog is a combination of a personal blog and a business blog and is usually named after the author as their brand.

The blogger’s goal for this type of blog is to establish itself as a thought leader in the industry.

An example of this type of blog is one of my own, which is named Christian Dale Apolinario, where I share all about entrepreneurship.

And of course, the ideal domain name for this blog would be my name also, which is https://christiandaleapolinario.com.

Topics that I covered here help me establish myself as a thought leader in the business world, while I can still share my personal experiences, opinions, and interests at the same time just like a personal blog does.

My blog may not be just a personal blog and a personal brand / professional blog but is already a combination of other blog types.

But still, it’s more focused on being just a personal brand / professional blog.

Niche blog

A niche blog focuses on a specialized topic, where it aims to provide informative content and to be recognized as a trusted resource in the industry.

One of the best examples of a niche blog is our blog itself, FaultyBlogger.

And our blogging niche is making money blogging, where we focus on writing blog writing tips, growing your blog site’s traffic, and how to make money blogging.

If you consider making money blogging, then this type of blog tends to be the most profitable because it focuses on specific audiences, making it easier to attract loyal readers.

This focused approach often leads to higher engagement, better conversion rates for affiliate marketing, and more opportunities for indirect income streams

Business / corporate blog

Nowadays, businesses understand the power of blogging, and they leverage using it very well.

In fact, it is one of the most effective content marketing every business do that helps them bring more sales.

Plus, it doesn’t cost much to run a blog, and you can simply start one by yourself without coding needed.

So how does this work?

Here’s how a blog helps bring more sales to the business.

Business / corporate blogs usually write top-funnel to mid-funnel content, which aims to help and educate the readers, and not to close a sale.

So let’s take Magpainsure’s blog as an example. Magpainsure is an Insurance brokerage company that I co-founded, but it’s still in the beta stage.

We write expert advice and practical tips on car insurance, maintenance, and safe driving tips without being too salesy.

And the types of readers that usually find and read these blogs are not ready to purchase insurance yet, which is perfectly fine.

But as the company establishes itself as a go-to and trusted resource in the industry, Magpainsure will be top of mind when they are in buying mode for car insurance in the future.

Plus, blogging is one of the secrets on how to rank a website higher on Google because search engines rank based on the number of pages, and not the whole website/blog site.

So the more pages your website/blog site has, means more chances of ranking better on SERP (search engine results page).

FAQs

Here are the frequently asked questions on different types of blogs.

What are the most popular types of blogs?

The most popular types of blogs are personal, personal brand/professional blog, niche blog, and business/corporate blog.

Can I start a personal blog and then change it to a personal brand / professional blog or other blog type?

Absolutely! When I started Christian Dale Apolinario in 2021, my goal was to showcase my portfolio and web design services.

In fact, you can still see my website back then on Wayback Machine. And even though it didn’t perfectly archive my site, you can still have an idea of what it looks like.

But anyway, it started as a personal brand / professional blog and a portfolio website before I turned it into a personal blog.

And the reason for that was because my web design service at the time wasn’t doing well.

So instead of shutting down my site, I decided to make it a personal blog where I can document and share my personal experiences, like how I blog my yearly reviews (2021, 2022, 2023).

Fast forward to this day, my blog turned into something more.

I wanted not just to write something for myself but to write something that other people wanted to learn, which is why I keep learning and navigating every side of entrepreneurship and sharing it through my blogs.

Plus, I’ve also started recommending books through my affiliate links where I could earn commissions.

Now, my blog is a combination of a personal blog, personal brand / professional blog, niche blog, and affiliate blog. And may possibly become a business / corporate blog in the future.

So if you don’t find a type of blog mentioned in this post that you like, then feel free to make your own.

Which type of blogs make the most money?

All blogs have the potential to make money, but niche blogs tend to be the most profitable type of blog.

Final thoughts

These are just the most popular types of blogs on the blogosphere, and that there are no strict rules to starting a blog
